pinch hit

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 8:58 PM
We still have one outstanding pinch hit request from last night. Please take a look at the request if you think you can tackle Weeds or Glee femslash.

Other than that, no new pinch hit requests so far, which is great! One of the mods will update the community if that changes.

U.S. President Barack Obama speaks to children during a visit to the Boys and Girls Club of Washington on December 21, 2009 in Washington, DC. Obama read the "Polar Express" to the children and then passed out cookies.

365: 097-101

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 8:05 PM
Forget New Year's, I am going for an End of Year Resolution: to finish a hand-written draft of my bigbang fic! So far I'm ~10 scenes in and ~11,200 words; I've got another 8 scenes. If I write a scene a day, it's doable! I can cry fix it up as I type the fic into the next draft.

And without further delay, another batch of 365:

097

Someone told me a brand was going to start selling Loli-Goth clothing in Brazil. I hope this is not that brand, because, gross. Who wants to look like that?! Loli-Goth is actually cute/fun/interesting. That poster isn't; the woman looks sickly and really confused. Not a look I'd strive for, myself.

098

A part of campus I see, like, multiple times a day.

099

Puppy! This is Apollo, and he is always up for a bit of conversation and petting. He makes the most terrific happy-yowling sounds. :)

100

I spent most of this day reading Clarice Lispector's "A Paixão Segundo G.H." You know. The one where the protagonist thinks roaches are basically the most seductive things on earth. And then she eats one. YUM. (The discussion we had about the book was really interesting! Cycle of life, being brave enough to do what you want, etc. It really helped me give perspective on what Lispector meant to do. But I was still totally grossed out. "STOP GOING ON ABOUT THE ROACH ;___;", I cried to myself.) Someone on my flist might recognize the postcard, since someone from there sent it to me.

101

Supermarket~. I used to come here all the time, when I first moved to Floripa. I've since moved to another part of the city, but I still have the chance to drop by now and then. As you might've guessed, since here it is, all photographed.

Baby!

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 5:19 PM
Naveen Alexander Shipman was born today at 2:50 pm. 6 lb, 13.7 ounces, mom and baby doing fine.

[info]ashacat is inexpressibly relieved; [info]netcurmudgeon is ecstatic.

I'm going over in a few minutes to take care of his brother so dad can go back to the hospital for a few hours.

It's the shortest day of the year in my hemisphere. From here on out, the days get longer, however incrementally.

Thank God. \o/!

Wishing everyone a happy solstice, whether it's summer or winter where you are -- and to all of us, more light in the days to come!

(unrelated ps: I uploaded my Yuletide story to the AO3 this weekend! I am so excited that Yuletide is in its new home. And the upload was so easy. And if there were typos in my story, I could fix them myself instead of asking the mods to fix them for me. AO3 FTW!)

Traveling over Yuletide

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 1:54 PM
Hello, Yuletide writer!

If you see this, please know that I will be visiting family over the holidays, and that I may not have reliable access to the internet. If I do not comment before January 4, don't worry! Once I'm back home, I will be back and commenting like a commenting thing!

Hope everyone has a terrific holiday season! Happy New Year! *Blows a kazoo*

I love fandom.

An interesting essay by [info]icarusancalion on the Arthurian legends can be found over here, touching on a number of the old stories and how it all plays together in the show Merlin.

Tilting to One Side

Guys are still stomping around on the roof, still hammering. The vibrations have sent most of the framed pictures on our walls askew.

Here's an appeal I found delightful -- adopt a dot for art! Hee.

Mass murder and mayhem are all fun and games until someone stabs you repeatedly in the eye.

Gotta finish the last stage of my grading, so the Gay Figure Skating Costume Awards might have to wait until tomorrow night. Ugh, that is all I want to be writing now, trust me. OTOH, I got all my winter ficathon fics in. Early on [info]yuletide for the second year in a row! Apparently I have learned time management or something.

National figure skating championships are busting out all over Europe, and I am particularly excited to see that Florent Amodio won French Nats - in an admittedly Joubert-free field, but beating out Preaubert and Ponsero for the second Olympic slot. Perhaps even more awesome was Michal Brezina's defeat of Verner at Czech Nationals. Tiny adorable future of figure skating FTW.

In other extremely gaymo sporting news, my hometown team won the Japanese men's synchronized gymnastics championships.

Elsewhere on YouTube, Benji and Lacey Schwimmer dancing together at the iHollywood dance festival. Travis Wall and Joshua Allen were there too, but the Schwimmers were the real standout for me. I've never seen a West Coast Swing slow dance, and their piece was beautiful, intricate, and moving. And to one of my favorite songs.

Speaking of SYTYCOMG? Have some Adam Lambert/Jakob Karr rumors. Will I be writing fic? Heh. Twist my arm.

And here is where I rant about Survivor. )

watch me try to breathe again

It's fairly quiet at work today, so if anyone needs a quick last-minute yuletide beta and thinks I might be reasonably familiar with the fandom they're writing in, feel free to drop me a note at victoria.p @ gmail with the fandom and I will tell you yea or nay.

I uploaded on Saturday and have been procrastinating on Broken Toys ever since. Heh. What kind of Max/Alec story would you make me write, if you could?

This morning I updated [info]unfitforsociety because I figure the next big update will be with yuletide stories, but it's possible people are looking for things to read right now. So [info]unfitforsociety has been updated with 20 recs for December 2009:

* 8 Supernatural
* 4 Crossovers
* 2 Star Trek Reboot
* 2 White Collar
* 1 each Being Human, Bones, Dark Angel, and Friday Night Lights

I'm kinda wishing I'd just taken today and tomorrow off. It's a short week, but meh, this weather makes everything more difficult (stupid slushy corners and four foot piles of snow on the sidewalks). Maybe I will work on the year-end writing meme thingy. Hmm...
